Takumaru Suzuki graduated from Hawaiʻi Tokai in December 2015. After working back in Japan for some months, Takumaru was planning to go to Australia on a Working Holiday Visa. But he found out about an internship program at a language school in Cebu City and decided to go to the Philippines instead! He joined the staff of Newtype International Language School (NILS) as an unpaid intern for about six months (from September 2016 to March 2017). During his internship at NILS, Takumaru received free dormitory housing and meals — and free private English lessons.
“It was a really great experience,” said Takumaru. “I could experience being a part of a company as a businessman, and improve my English skill. And it was fun!” Takumaru added that he thinks this intern program is a very good and inexpensive opportunity for any Hawaiʻi Tokai student.
Now that Takumaru has completed his internship in the Philippines, he is applying to study at Minnesota State University, Mankato where he will major in Technical Communication, a program offered by the English Department.
